Advice: Pharmacy school can be hard; it’s challenging for everyone in different ways. Just know that it’s ok to have setbacks and it’s about the comeback. You got this! (:

John Chea,

Vice President

John Chea is a fourth-year pharmacy student at the University of Southern California, Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He received his B.S. in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2021. In his first year of pharmacy school, John began his internship at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, which has inspired him to pursue a PGY-1 residency upon graduation. During his second year, John became heavily involved with PharmSC Clinic and the American Pharmacy Student Alliance (APSA) serving as the Director of Finance for both organizations. In his roles, he not only managed the organization's funds, but also helped mentor and support the first year boards. He helped develop initiatives such as CV workshops and interview workshops to help better prepare P1s for internships and future student organizations interviews. As a third year, John also became the Alumni Liaison for Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS), the Director of Research for PharmSC, and a Student Ambassador for the Margaret and John Biles Leadership Center. Throughout his pharmacy journey, John was fortunate to have met so many mentors and role models that have helped in his personal and professional growth. John is beyond excited to return to the PLS board as it will provide him the opportunity to continue providing the same mentorship and support he was given over the last 3 years to the next generation of student pharmacists.

Advice: Cherish your time! Pharmacy school is rough, but it will fly by at an instant. Take a step back once in a while to enjoy and appreciate the people and the unique experiences you made along the way.

Vicky Lin,

Secretary & Historian

Vicky Lin is a fourth-year pharmacy student at the USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She earned her B.S. in Molecular Environmental Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, Vicky holds the position of Lead Intern Pharmacist at the East Los Angeles Kaiser Permanente pharmacy. This internship has strengthened her interest in pursuing a career in ambulatory care, although she remains open to working in more acute care settings. She also actively participates in campus organizations, serving as the Director of Public Relations for PharmSC as a P2, the intern and eventually Director of OTC/Medication Safety for APSA as a P1 and P2, respectively, and as the Vice President of Academic Affairs for ASP as a P3. In her roles, she has not only coordinated educational workshops for pharmacy students, but her efforts have had a positive impact on the local community by bringing more awareness and education to parents about the importance of medication safety and disposal. Additionally, as VP of Academic Affairs, she has also tirelessly coordinated study sessions for pharmacy students so that they too can excel in their academic journey. Vicky's dedication to academic and professional pursuits, combined with her leadership roles in diverse organizations, reflects her unwavering commitment to the field of pharmacy and her aspiration to contribute positively to both community and clinical settings. She is both honored and excited to join the Phi Lambda Sigma board, providing her an opportunity to actively engage in her passion for assisting other students navigate their pharmacy journeys.

Advice: Get involved in study groups and extracurricular activities even if you don’t feel as confident about these positions. It’s all about the learning process. Along the way, you might even meet some of your lifelong friends who you know you can rely on. Building connections with classmates and even faculty members not only enriches your pharmacy school journey, but also opens doors to valuable networking opportunities.

Kalvin Duong,

Alumni Liaison

Kalvin Duong is a third-year student pharmacist at the USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is originally from Hayward, California. He moved down to Southern California to earn a B.S. in General Biology and a minor in psychology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He has been involved in many organizations since starting his pharmacy school journey such as the American Pharmacy Student Alliance (APSA) and Vietnamese-American Pharmacy Student Association (VAPSA). As a P2, he was the Director of Financial Affairs for APSA and the Director of Membership for VAPSA. Through both of these experiences, he learned many professional and personal skills. Kalvin continuously puts himself out there and it shows through his growth compared to his first day of pharmacy school. By being heavily involved, he does not only want to become a better student or leader, but a mentor to the newer class as they adjust to this drastic transition. He plans on being involved with many organizations in the next year such as Alpha Iota Pi and returning to his APSA position as the Director of Financial Affairs. Aside from school and his extracurriculars, Kalvin is currently an intern pharmacist at City of Hope. At the moment, he plans to pursue a career in inpatient pharmacy, specifically focusing more on oncology.
